Self-printable coloring zine that aims to ungovern the mind.

This FANZINE is made to be altered, explored, and questioned.

This proposal is a dialogue between us, as it unfolds with your openness to engage with it.

Before we start

I propose three specific tools as practices to use while you dive into the task of coloring the fanzine. These are experimental tools designed to disrupt the usual ways the mind works when creating. You could say they’re strategies to hack the mental pathways that the mind has already traced and walked over countless times.

At first glance, these tools might seem simple, but our brains will inevitably try to bypass them, returning to their own logic—the same thought patterns we’ve been following for years, decades, centuries. A logic that has surely been reinforced in recent years by infinite scrolling and capitalism.

That said, a few points come to mind. The first is more about observing thought itself. When you sit down to color, ask yourself: Where did your mind wander? What takes up time and space in your head? Is it a personal urgency? A socio-political concern? A shared desire?

Having observed that distraction of thought is already a lot. You’ve brought awareness to which branch of the tree the monkey jumped to. Now, once you notice your mind has wandered, once the monkey has jumped, I invite you to bring your attention back to what was originally proposed. And so, you’ll dance in the ebb and flow of the mind, moving back and forth. It’s a practice, and it takes time.

As for the tools, my recommendation is to start small and build up. My suggestion is to begin with one tool on a small section of the drawing and work your way through the fanzine.

These tools are based on a logic of play, to be used while you're in the act of coloring a drawing. Welcome your imagination, your desire to layer, cut, branch out, invent new tools, and create variations.

You can also color in the classic way, like the coloring books of old. No one's going to grade you for this, and it’s not a competition of creativity or beauty.

You can print it as many times as you want, you can repaint it and interact with it in countless other ways.

I want you to know that I’m deeply interested in the journey of this fanzine and how each person colored it, as well as any comments you'd like to share. That’s why it would be incredibly enriching for my research and curiosity if you could share some of your processes with me.
